From the president
WELCOME to the first edition of our 'new look' Airwaves. It has been a while since our last newsletter but we are back, bigger, brighter and better than before.
3mFM has been broadcasting for the past 23 years and as such we are proud to be South Gippsland's only local radio station. We do not receive any direct government funding but rely on the support of our sponsors, volunteers and members to keep us afloat.
So whether you have re-signed on as a member for 2010 or just recently joined us, we thank you most sincerely for your support.
A special thank you to our wonderful team of volunteers who keep us running on a day-to-day basis and our fabulous sponsors (see the full list in this edition).
And be sure to mention 3mFM when you see them.  By supporting them, you are supporting us.
Welcome back to Pete, our garden guru. It's fantastic to have him back on Saturday mornings with great advice of what to do around the garden.
And a big welcome to our fabulous new day-time presenters, Tony Curtis and Cassie Wilcox, and James Brosnan who has taken over the reins of On the Bench, talking about football and netball every Saturday morning.
For all the details, check out the full program on our website. And remember, we look forward to getting your feedback, so tell us what you think.
Until then, keep listening. Wendy Williams

3mFM THANKS OUR VALUED SPONSORS FOR THEIR SUPPORT
The theatre of radio
IN an exciting partnership, 3mFM and the Lions Club are proud to announce the Radio Theatre Project where schools and students will be in the running for a total of $3000 in cash prizes.
Open to both primary and secondary schools, teams made up of two to six students will be asked to conceive, write and perform a radio play of between five and seven minutes, complete with character voices, sound effects and music.
A perpetual trophy will also be awarded to the winning schools and successful plays will air on 3mFM later in the year.
Entry is free, and all that is needed is a good idea, a little time and lots of enthusiasm.
A representative of the project
team will be in contact with
all local schools in the weeks
ahead with more information.
This is a fantastic opportunity
for young people to show their
creative side and get a little
taste of the world of radio.

LIVES: Wonthaggi, for quite a few years now.
SHOWS PRESENTED: I host Thursday’s morning
show, from 9am- noon, and Classic Nostalgia, on
Sundays from 6-8pm. I love doing them.
My Classic Nostalgia is a mixture of classic music,
singers and songs, from the 50's back. Basically,
anything I can get my hands on!
HOW LONG WITH THE STATION: I have been at
3mFM for 11 years now.
A POSITIVE CHANGE I HAVE SEEN @ 3mFM
DURING THIS TIME:  One of the great things now is
our ability to update and maintain the equipment.
There have been many new purchases and physical
changes to the premises. I think it is important to
keep our country touch.
FAVE FOOTY TEAM: Richmond of course – and
many thanks to all who rang up when they won!
IN SIGNING OFF: I am a stirrer and I LOVE 3mFM.
It's like family.
Spreading the word
THIS year 3mFM took part in South Gippsland Shire Council's Community Expo for the first time.
The expo, held during National Volunteers' Week, is a great opportunity for organisations to promote themselves and network with each other.
During the day we managed to pick up a couple of new members, whom were welcomed on air during live crosses to Tony back in the studio. We came away with a few good ideas and some handy leads.
A special thanks goes to Ron Payne (Lions Club International District 201 V3) for printing up a supply of our 'draft' 3mfm brochures to hand out on the day.
Thanks to all who helped put in and to South Gippsland Shire Looking after us so well.
